About Our Company

Paul Abt Contract Floor Coverings, Inc. was formed in 1947 in East St. Louis, Illinois. The business has evolved from initially selling and installing vinyl tile in the tri-state area if Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky to handling large scale commercial projects. Over the last 60 years Paul Abt Contract Floor Coverings, Inc. has served the needs of a diverse clientele including health care facilities, schools, churches, restaurants, office buildings, banks, and municipal projects such as court houses, city halls, and military installations.

In 1992, Gerry Staley purchased the company from the Abt family, expanded the company’s product line, and grew sales from $1.7 million to almost $5.0 million. Gerry also expanded the geographic service area of the company to include Missouri and the company now sees nearly half of its sales from that area. In 2005, Paul Abt Contract Floor Coverings, Inc. moved into a 14,000 sq. ft. facility in Belleville, IL to better meet the needs of its growing customer base. Today, the company's service area is eastern Missouri and southern Illinois.

Trained Craftsmen

Our Company is Our Employees -- Abt's staff of skilled flooring installers are highly qualified and trained craftsmen. They have completed the Union Floor Layers (Local 1310) Apprenticeship Training Program. This program is a four-year plan, where the flooring contractor pays the costs of the student's "in school training time". The apprenticeship training school is staffed with instructors from the trade, and is monitored by the Union and the Flooring Industry Council of Greater St. Louis.

The flooring industry is committed to continuous improvement of craft skills, providing the flooring contractors with high quality craftmanship at a fair price. The school is located at 6261 Knox Industrial in St. Louis.

The skills of these trade craftsmen are un-equalled by unschooled, untrained "floor installers", who are mainly trained from their mistakes on the job at the cost of the consumer. When we need additional manpower, we have the option of obtaining additional skilled craftsmen from the trade hiring hall.

Working with designers, architects, developers, contractors, and end users, Paul Abt Contract Floor Coverings, Inc. provides solutions for a wide range of performance requirements and design objectives. With decades of combined expertise in floor covering, our project management and installation teams provide valuable knowledge to ensure lasting, beautiful results. The company continues to be locally owned and focuses on a long tradition of quality workmanship, a safe working environment for its employees, and stable growth.

Safety

Paul Abt Contract Floor Coverings, Inc. is proud of its safety record. The Associated General Contractors of America has awarded us its Certificate Commendation for Excellent Safety Record for 1999, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008. In addition, the Southern Illinois Builders Association has given Paul Abt Contract Floor Coverings its Merit Award for Zero Lost Time Accidents for 1999, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008.   And, the Southern Illinois Builders Association has bestowed upon us its Excellence Award for Zero Lost Time Accidents for 2004, 2005 and 2006.
